‘Choose Life’ license plates should be coming soon

October 6th, 2008, 1:20 pm · 8 Comments · posted by Le Templar

The Arizona Motor Vehicle Division can’t avoid it any more. The agency has to starting issues special license plates for people who oppose abortion, as the state already does for causes such as spraying and neutering pets and to support fallen police officers.

The U.S. Supreme Court refused this morning to consider an decision from the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals that says abortion opponents have a First Amendment right to their own specialty license plate.

“Life-affirming expression is constitutionally protected just like any other speech,” said Peter Gentala, attorney for the Arizona Life Coalition, which requested the “Choose Life” plate in a news release today. “The Arizona Life Coalition’s message has been censored for over six years. Now it’s time for the License Plate Commission to act quickly to approve the plates so they can go into production as the law requires.”

It’s probably hard for some people to wrap their heads around, but I wrote more than a year ago that Arizona was discriminating against pro-life groups by refusing to issue such a plate after had patiently followed all of the rules. Now, the state has to start selling the plates, or get out of the business of these specialty issue plates. The Tribune Editorial Board has called for the latter option, but I doubt that will happen.

    Good. About Time.

What’s next? I don’t pick my nose plates? How many different kinds of plates do we need?

I think this is a great idea and as same right, people can have “Pro-Choice” plate. After all, it should be fare for all.

  4. Toad Mule Says:

It’s about time they respect the beliefs of those who are Pro-Life. If the Pro-Choice side wanted a license plate they probably would have made it without blinking an eye.

As a newcomer to AZ, I find it strange that this is a big issue here. Although I dislike the term “Pro-Life” (Who’s, honestly, pro-abortion?) and I support the Pro-choice community, I think that these people have every right to have their license plates. Good for them. Too bad they’re not smart enough to realize that by overturning Roe v. Wade there will actually be more abortions in the U.S., but whatever. Have your little license plates that make you feel good about yourselves.

Its about time this took place…and you Stacy are pro-abortion the minute you said go ahead and have our liitle license plates…Abortion is murder…and has become a woman( for lack of better word)birth control method…try keeping your legs closed…and one day the Roe v. Wade will be overturned….and you will still all pay a price the minute you stand before God….and if it was such a ok thing to do then you who push abortions down teenage girls throat and other desperate woman would let them see what they are really doing to these precious little babies as you rip them apart…

For the truth, and to see pictures of abortion and aborted babies, go to: http://www.abourt73.com

You shall not murder. The question is, is it a baby or not? Well, thinking logically:

If I do not love my child who is age 2, should I murder it?
If a baby is about to be born, and only the head is out, is it a baby or not?
What if it is the foot? Chop it off and kill the rest of the baby? Of course not-the only thing that changes is -l-o-c-a-t-i-o-n.
We are all made in the image of God with a moral being. Sadly, so many have their consciences seared (see Romans 1-3 in the Bible) . That is why 4400 BABIES are murdered in America EVERY DAY!
EVeryone will give an account to their Creator. God sees all and knows all and will not be corrupted or bribed. He will render every one according to their deeds. The only way to be saved from the wrath of God is to repent and believe the Gospel of Jesus Christ. http://www.thegoodpersontest.com

Vicki, you strike me as a person with poor logic skills. You can’t separate your emotions from the argument. How many blogs do you post at fighting to keep murderers from the death penalty? Aren’t we all forgiven by God? Isn’t that life? You people are hypocrites who just like feel important about yourselves by fighting this issue…feeling like it makes you a nurturing person…still not realizing that more life was preserved since Roe v. Wade than before the ruling. If you really cared about the sanctity of life you’d stop pushing your own religious view on people and just do something productive about it. Oppressing women is not the answer. Better education is the answer. Instead of protesting clinics, just make your church the best it can be so that more people want to be part of your morals. God will judge YOU for your judgmental ways, my dear. You’d better rethink what’s right and wrong. You are a sinner too.
