We’re not supposed to enjoy saying “I told so.” So I promise there’s no smile on my face as I write to alert readers to the fact that Gilbert Mayor Steve Berman’s wife now says she never should have accused him of arranging to steal campaign signs.
I mentioned in this blog Tuesday that Berman critics have been trying to smear the mayor by spreading far and wide a January police report which quoted Michelle Berman as making this claim. There have been growing concerns about Michelle Berman’s reliability, and there’s no independent verification that Berman has any connection to disappearing campaign signs. But that hasn’t stopped some people from anonymously and repeatedly making reference to the January police report in the comments section of various Tribune stories.
So maybe this will stop them. Gilbert police filed a new report dated Wednesday from a follow-up interview with Michelle Berman that quotes her as saying:
“I know nothing about campaign signs. The truth is, I know nothing for sure about campaign signs. So, you can take that out of the report.”
As of this writing, the anti-Berman Web site that has been the focus of the rumor-mongering has not made any reference to this new police report or Michelle Berman’s recantation.

So the sign stealing wasn’t true. What about the part that he threatened her and allegedly tried to poison her? Is she still hiding out in another city afraid for her life?
This is one weird woman, (still) married to a very weird man. May they live long and stay married (thus giving what the other needs and craves).
My questions - asked many times and still never answered:
1. How does Berman afford such a lavish home on his only declared income as Mayor of Gilbert?
2. Who paid for (underwrote) the cost of his high-profile lawyer during the last chapter of the “Berman’s Run Amok” ??
It sounds like someone is in dire need of some extensive mental health counseling. This couples saga is doing nothing but harm the image of Gilbert, maybe Berman should consider withdrawing.

I still believe Berman stole the signs. How would his wife have known that when she accused him of it? And why would she mention it? It doesn’t make any sense. I’m guessing she told the truth, then it got leaked and Berman twisted her arm until she changed her story…plain and simple.
Yes, let’s see.. what is more likely: that Michelle somehow made up some accusation that happens to coincide with a large number of reports of stolen expensive signs, or that Steve changed her mind about opening her mouth with a good talking-to?
Ah. Now that she’s retracted so many stories, it’s time to finally trust what she says. What was the magic number?

i just noticed today that some of the recall berman signs on power were cut-up so his name is no longer showing. so he is being accused of stealing signs and now the signs in opposition to him are being destroyed??? this is unbelievable.
Are the 911 tapes public as well? You should be asking about a call Michelle made to GPD about the same time of the police report. Sources say that she thinks she is being poisoned and that if Berman is not re-elected, he will put a bullet in his head right in front of her.
