Sen. Jon Kyl
I guess Washington politics must be boring this week, as the Democratic National Committee is trying to rile things up by casting Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., as a blackhearted penny-pincher who wants to shut down jobs in Arizona. Kyl wrote in his weekly column about all of the recent news that President Barack Obama’s massive spending plan to boost the economy isn’t working out so well. Few actual jobs have been created and in many cases, the money hasn’t even been spent yet. In his conclusion, Kyl calls for canceling the rest of the stimulus program and stop adding to that massive federal debt.
The DNC went into a small tizzy, sending out a lengthy news release about the thousands of the jobs that Arizona will “lose” without the federal stimulus, primarily with highway construction contracts. Several politicos will seek to turn up the volume this afternoon with a telephone news conference that scheduled to include state Democratic Party executive director Luis Heredia, State Rep. Lynn Pancrazi, D-Yuma, and two Phoenix councilmen.
It’s unusual to kick over political anthills just because of a senator’s regular column, especially when that senator isn’t up for re-election.
But what is so silly about this is Kyl voted against the stimulus package to begin with, so his column really is a “I told you so” piece. He points to political polls that show more Americans are turning sour on the whole idea.
Democrats are just blowing hot air on this issue because Arizonans already know where Kyl stands, and that position is probably more popular today that it was back in January.
Update: Wow! The Democrats are putting some real energy in this. Now they have rushed out a video as well.

Republicans are like that lazy guy at work who shoots down everyone else’s ideas without offering any ideas of his own. You can’t wait until that guy gets laid off. Which, of course, is inevitable.
The so-called “stimulus” if it ever gets distributed, will end up being less than what the local governments (Mesa and Gilbert have already laid their claims) and state (if Gov. Jan gets her way) end up grabbing. It is a pretty useless gesture that our children will pay for. The money won’t stimulate much of anything, just line pockets of local political machimes. When you elect a crooked Chicago real estate lawyer as President, expect your government to be run like a crooked Chicago real estate deal.
Kyl doesn’t like federal stimulus.
President Obama said the stimulus plan would save or create more than two million jobs this year.
Concerning the $787 billion stimulus package President Barack Obama signed into law in February, and the idea of a second one, Sen. Jon Kyl is not alone. With the economy weaker and the highest unemployment rates that looks like will hit 11 percent, legislators from both sides of politics expressing dissatisfaction with the impact of the stimulus package.
7,500 jobs! Wow! How many people are unemployed in AZ, 300,000 (or close to it?)
Way to go, DNC.
Oh, hey Will, seems to me that I remember Kyl and Republicans having an alternative stimulus bill based on the President’s econ adviser’s methods (Romer) that would have created more jobs for a smaller cost.
What are you doing commenting on blogs during a week day during work? Shouldn’t you be working? Lazy.
So, who cares what Kyl thinks, in fact who cares want any of these good old boy aging white right-wing extremists think about anything.
The extremists (GOP) in this state are hell bent on one thing, enslaving the working people of this nation and turning it over to their nationalist capitolist friends and treating Americans like citizens of a third world nation.
Quite frankly after what these criminals have done to our citizens and to the world, they should all be strung up along the public highways to rot.
What has Kyl done for Arizona besides help Bush plunge us into a needless war, cut taxes and increase spending? Kyl has done nothing to earn the position of senator.
